A prayer

As I grow up and pass through life

As I bow before Allah each day

I pray I be forever me

My prostration be the same

My heart as white as a dove

Spotless and stainless

As I achieve things in life

And become someone of rank

I pray I be the same old me

Unpretentious and unassuming

The word has reached me

That many a children of Adam and Eve

Were virtuous souls but as they grew

And become possessions of swelling mines

They tarried and slithered in goodness

By and by they forgot themselves

Deluged in mine and pride

So I fear while talking steps in life

Of the destruction precedented

Of the eery faith they met

As I pass by life’s vale and plain

I pray I remember YOU!

Like a bird

Perching on her bed

In the corner of a closet

She is ready to fly

On the angel’s call high

Her face not grim, not drooping

No! nothing of eery looking

Of death and departure

But calm and still

Like a sea, silent

And alluringly loud

Desperate to dissolve

In the glowing Cosmos

Dark and yet bright!

Studded with giant lamps

The scintillating after life

The ever unseen dimension!

She is another kind of a person

Contempt and happy with little

Mundane things tickle

Not her heart

Sprouting ephemeral wishes

For, she beholds the world

In her own garden, her self

The grooves on her forehead

Narrate stories of old

Jagged and even

Gossips, finds she

An act, most distasteful

For she is in reality immersed

Far more engaging she appears in

In her autumn

She yearns for winter

Her grey tresses waiting to be snowed

She is waiting for her Death, calmly

She is a mother

Who lost her tiny tot

When that ill finger

Clicked the trigger

And boom! It pierced the soft little heart!

Hauling life out of her

A lifeless carapace she turned

Executed by a nation’s saviour

For saving the nation!

This tyranny she accepted too

With patient eyes brimming

With gateways, flooding

She is the bird trampled

Many a times

Under the feet of not

Many strangers but her mates

Relishing on her pain.

Throttled, she endures all

Hiding pain with a smile all

Vibrant on ruddy countenances.

But abaft her sweet mask

She dugs untold tales

Of patience and perseverance

She is no other

But my grandaunt

Peace be on her!

Remitted be her sufferings nicely

Long live you!

Long live your patience!

Long live your endurance!

Each fine day I wake up

In the dark silver horizon

When He unites

The soul with my carapace

That day I pass by with little thought

Of it being another shot

To ladder up my rank

To swim one more mile

Like in a reverie with little worries

I walk on the rope of life

Each moment squandered in wishes

Ephemeral to the core!

Eating to the core!

When the desert herb wishes shrunk

In the unending dunes of life

Awoke my squint eyes to the full

I see beyond the mirage, values

Of magnanimous hues

Deep down through mind’s eye

Enlightened by the heaven’s light

No other but by the sacred scripture

Ameliorating each atom to the best!

Now no more would I be fastidious

For to view life through the bird’s eye

Is ever more educational

In glee thus, I submit my being to thee

My Owner! My Master!

A mistake

Once a bulb lit in his head.
Hopes arose for a greener planet.
Electrified, it charged high,
And bursted open the dark chains.
That had stiffened his thoughts.

Then, like a bull it gored the matador.
And butted the prison wall.
Many mouths gaped in wonder.
Solidarity once again did miracle.
And humanity celebrated its victory
As history got embellished in golden ink.

Then a mistake,
Alas!  A mistake!
It mistook diamond as another stone.
Kicked it and lost the way.
Trampling new lands without a loadstar.
In the hope of a freedom.
It never reached ‘the garden’.

Tired of fishing around.
Ethics became a forlorn artefact.
Tampered, his own self.
And the scale, imbalanced!
A void, thus appeared.

Guiled by the cotton candy.
‘The garden’ vaporized from his mind.
The sweet candy became,
His new raison d’être.
By and by, ‘the garden’, now a hinterland for him.
Faded, and curtains fell over it.
His world shrunk.
His aim belittled.
His-self became his cage.
His wings never grew.
He never flew,
In the enthralling canopy.
To feel the freedom.

When Philosophy becomes
Brother to spirituality.
Man remains not a man.
But a quintessential being.
Whiter than the angels.
And the earth more than
A utopia of dreamland.
Dreamed by many a Heart.
Only in throes of pain.

No hardship sorrows.
No failure, a failure.
As Truth unveils before hearts.

Energized by the hallow.
Man realizes the value of his being.
All others subservient to him.
He cares and protects them,
A motherly love.

Endowed with the greatest bounty,
He stands as the Lord’s favorite creation.
The bounty of language!
Unknown to earth-ians.
A gadget to unravel secrets.
A means to uproot differences.

When philosophy becomes
Brother to sprituality.
Man explores.
Not devours.
He transcends from individuality to sociality.
He considers ‘the other’.
‘I’ transforms into ‘we’.
